A deeply relaxing treatment that works with your body's own ability to restore balance.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that specific points on the feet correspond to different areas and systems of the body. By applying targeted pressure to these points, a reflexologist works to support the body's natural processes, encouraging relaxation, improving circulation, and helping to reduce tension.
It is one of the most established complementary therapies, with a growing body of evidence supporting its role in stress reduction and wellbeing. Research suggests that reflexology may help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the body's "rest and restore" mode, helping to lower cortisol levels and ease physical tension.
Reflexology is not a diagnostic tool and does not claim to cure specific conditions. What it offers is a structured, therapeutic way to deeply relax and support your body through periods of stress, disrupted sleep, or general overload.
If you haven't had reflexology before, here's exactly what happens during a session at Cotherstone House.
Rachel will arrange a brief phone consultation to understand your health background and discuss what you'd like to get from the treatment. This helps her tailor the session to your needs.
You'll be welcomed into Cotherstone House and guided through to the conservatory treatment room. Take a moment to settle in, there's no rush.
You remain fully clothed throughout the session. You'll simply remove your shoes and socks, then recline in a Lafuma zero-gravity chair, a deeply comfortable position that takes the weight off your body completely.
Rachel works methodically across both feet, applying precise pressure to reflex points. The pressure is firm but not painful, and she'll check in with you throughout and adjust to your comfort. Many clients describe the sensation as deeply relaxing, and it's completely normal to drift off.
You'll have a few moments to come round gently. Rachel will share any observations and suggest aftercare. It's common to feel deeply relaxed, sleepy, or emotionally lighter in the hours after a session. Drink plenty of water and rest if you can.
Everyone responds differently to reflexology. Common reactions include:
"This was my first ever reflexology treatment. I haven't felt that relaxed and grounded for years. Rachel's professional approach put me at ease at once and I no longer get the Sunday night scaries."— Ed D
